No shocking result in a game in Mexicali where second ranked Soles (9-5) won against 5th ranked Halcones UV Xalapa (4-8) 89-79 on Friday. Soles looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American Joe Lawson (201-92, college: Indianapolis, agency: Inception Sports) who scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. International guard Luke Martinez (190-90, college: Wyoming) chipped in 21 points and 6 rebounds. Lawson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Soles players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Ishmael Lane (203-97, college: NSU) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and the other American import swingman Omar Boone (196, college: Sul Ross St.) added 16 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks respectively. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Soles. They keep a position of league leader. Loser Halcones UV Xalapa keeps the fifth place with eight games lost. Soles will meet Astros (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Halcones UV Xalapa will play against the league's leader Fuerza Regia in Monterrey and hope to secure a win.
