Regular Season Round 5: Guaiqueries - Gladiadores 71-68

The biggest surprise took place in Porlamar where host Guaiqueries (4-0) edged league's leader Gladiadores (3-1) 71-68 on Thursday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Gladiadores. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The best player for the winners was international point guard Heissler Guillent (186-86) who scored 23 points and 8 assists. Swingman Luis Duarte (190-94) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. Power forward Jesus Martinez (206-86) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and the former international forward Jhon Romero (199-85) added 14 points and 4 assists respectively for the guests. Four Gladiadores players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Guaiqueries have a solid series of four victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Gladiadores at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Spartans. Gladiadores will play next round against strong Broncos trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Caracas to the arena of Broncos. Guaiqueries will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Supersonicos in Margarita.
