Regular Season Round 6: Broncos - Gladiadores 67-76

Another interesting game was again a derby between two local teams from Caracas: Gladiadores (#2) and Broncos (#4). Broncos were defeated at home 67-76 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Broncos. Gladiadores dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Broncos' 22. Gladiadores had a 28-16 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international point guard Carlos Cedeno (193-85, college: Frank Phillips) notched 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the effort and international swingman Raymond Rada (194-97) supported him with 13 points and 9 rebounds. Even 23 points by American Musa Abdul-Aleem (196-88, college: Troy, agency: BIG) did not help to save the game for Broncos. Naturalized Colombian Hector Diaz (192-92) added 11 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Gladiadores maintains second position with 4-1 record behind leader Spartans. Loser Broncos dropped to the third place with three games lost. They share the position with Supersonicos. Gladiadores will meet Centauros (#6) in the next round. Broncos will play against Supersonicos in Margarita and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
