Regular Season Round 9: Cerrado - Pato Basquete 85-86

There was a surprise result when sixteenth ranked Pato (2-6) edged higher ranked Cerrado (3-4) in Brasilia 86-85 on Friday. Strangely Cerrado outrebounded Pato 53-40 including 20 on the offensive glass. Argentinian Mateo Bolivar (187-92) nailed 30 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and forward Paulo Scheuer (203-99) accounted for 12 points and 11 rebounds. Pato's coach Dede Barbosa used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American point guard Kenny Dawkins (172-87, college: Lamar) came up with 19 points and 8 assists and center Romulo Gusmao (208-95) added 16 points and 11 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for Cerrado in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pato moved-up to fifteenth place. Cerrado lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. They share it with Pinheiros and Paulistano. Pato will meet at home higher ranked Fortaleza (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cerrado will play against Paulistano in Sao Paulo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
