Regular Season Round 9: Flamengo - Minas 99-63

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Minas (6-1) in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night. Visitors were rolled over by third ranked Flamengo (7-1) 99-63. It ended at the same time the six-game winning streak of Minas. It was a key game for the second position in the league. Flamengo shot 61.9 percent from the field. They outrebounded Minas 38-23 including a 28-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Flamengo shot the lights out from three sinking 16 long-distance shots on high 61.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for American Brandon Robinson (196-89, college: Clayton St.) who led his team to a victory with 19 points and 8 rebounds. American-Jordanian Dar Tucker (193-88, college: DePaul) contributed with 18 points for the winners. Five Flamengo players scored in double figures. American guard Shaquille Johnson (194-90, college: Marshall, agency: Interperformances) answered with 24 points and 4 steals and international point guard Alexey Borges (185-95) added 9 points in the effort for Minas. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion moved-up to second place. Minas at the other side dropped to the third position with one game lost. Flamengo are looking forward to face Rio Claro (#12) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Minas will play against the league's leader Vivo/Franca (#1) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
