Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Sao Paulo: Sao Paulo (#5) and Corinthians (#15). Despite it looked like an easy game for Sao Paulo, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Host Corinthians challenged much higher ranked Sao Paulo giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by five points 83-78. Strangely Corinthians outrebounded Sao Paulo 38-25 including a 14-2 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Elinho Corazza (192-89, college: Miami Dade CC) who scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. American power forward Tyrone Curnell (203-88, college: Valdosta St., agency: BMS Sport Agency) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Alexandre Paranhos (204-92) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and Argentinian point guard Diego Figueredo (180-91, agency: BIG) added 11 points and 8 assists respectively. Five Sao Paulo and four Corinthians players scored in double figures. Sao Paulo maintains fifth place with 8-3 record. Corinthians lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the fifteenth position with ten games lost. Sao Paulo's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Sao Paulo to the arena Paulistano.
