Regular Season Round 5: Puerto Varas - Puerto Montt 81-87

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Puerto Montt (3-3) beat on the road 5th ranked Puerto Varas (3-2) 87-81 on Saturday. Puerto Montt dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Puerto Varas' 16. They outrebounded Puerto Varas 41-29 including 32 on the defensive glass. Puerto Montt looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Italian-Argentinian point guard Diego Gerbaudo (178-89) nailed 25 points and 8 assists for the winning side and international Carlos Lauler (190-96) accounted for 19 points and 12 rebounds. Four Puerto Montt players scored in double figures. Dominican guard Bernardo Polanco (189-94) came up with 26 points and the former international forward Aitor Pickett (203-99) added 9 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Puerto Varas in the defeat. Puerto Montt moved-up to fifth place. Loser Puerto Varas dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. Puerto Montt will meet Las Animas (#6) in the next round. Puerto Varas will play against Deportivo Valdivia and hope to secure a win.
