There was an upset when higher ranked Instituto (10-9) lost to nineteenth ranked La Union (6-12) in Cordoba 80-96 on Monday. La Union looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Forward Patricio Tabarez (195-91) nailed 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and American forward Zac Cuthbertson (201-96, college: Coastal) accounted for 17 points and 11 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Guard Luciano Gonzalez (186-98) came up with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Spanish center Antoni Vicens (204-90, agency: Duran International) added 15 points respectively for Instituto in the defeat. Four La Union and five Instituto players scored in double figures. La Union moved-up to fifteenth place, which they share with Argentino. Loser Instituto dropped to the ninth position with nine games lost. They share it with Olimpico. La Union will meet higher ranked Riachuelo LR (#13) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Instituto will have a break next round.
