A very close game took place in Brasilia between Cerrado and Sao Paulo. Fifteenth ranked Cerrado (6-11) got a very close home victory over higher ranked Sao Paulo (12-6). Cerrado managed to escape with a 2-point win 86-84 on Thursday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the guest team. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sao Paulo. Guard Paulo Da Costa (193-94) had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Isaac Thornton (193-91, college: Fairmont St.) chipped in 22 points during the contest. At the losing side the former international point guard Henrique Coelho (184-93) responded with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international forward Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Sao Paulo players scored in double figures. Cerrado moved-up to thirteenth place. Loser Sao Paulo keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Cerrado will meet higher ranked Pinheiros (#10) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sao Paulo will have a break next round.
