Regular Season Round 22: Ferro - Union SF 87-78
Date: January 29, 2022
There was no surprise in Buenos Aires where 17th ranked Union SF (6-14) was defeated by seventh ranked Ferro (12-9) 87-78 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Union SF won third quarter 28-15. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Ferro won last quarter 24-17. Ferro outrebounded Union SF 36-23 including 29 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Uruguayan center Theo Metzger (200-99) fired a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Marco Luchi (198-92) chipped in 15 points. The former international guard Juan Pablo Cantero (188-82) produced 14 points and 6 rebounds and American forward Justin Everett (206-96, college: Humboldt St.) added 16 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Ferro moved-up to fourth place. Union SF lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventeenth position with 14 games lost. They share it with La Union. Ferro will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Union SF will play against the league's second-placed Penarol (#2) in Mar del Plata and hope to secure a win.
