Regular Season Round 21: Urupan - Malvin 100-94
Date: February 7, 2022
Very expected game when 7th ranked Malvin (9-8) was defeated on the road by third ranked Urupan (12-5) 100-94 on Monday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Urupan dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Malvin's 42. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Urupan made 7 blocks. The former international Hernando Caceres (202-94, agency: Pro Sports) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and point guard Mateo Sarni (185-98) chipped in 21 points and 5 assists. The best for the losing side was the former international point guard Juan Santiso (185-94) with 32 points and 7 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and naturalized German center Kiril Wachsmann (203-84, college: Iona) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. Four Urupan and five Malvin players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Urupan maintains third place with 12-5 record having just three points less than leader Goes. Loser Malvin dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with Olimpia. Urupan will meet at home Urunday (#13) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Malvin's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Montevideo Bigua.
