There was a surprise result in Brasilia where fifteenth ranked Cerrado (7-13) beat higher ranked Caxias do Sul (9-14) 79-61 on Wednesday. They outrebounded Caxias do Sul 46-23 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. American point guard Kenny Dawkins (172-87, college: Lamar) stepped up and scored 16 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Isaac Thornton (193-91, college: Fairmont St.) chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds. Four Cerrado players scored in double figures. Cerrado's coach Bruno Lopes used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international guard Humberto Silva (196-95) responded with 21 points and 4 assists and naturalized French Pedro Mendonca (196-95) scored 16 points and 4 assists. Cerrado moved-up to twelfth place. Loser Caxias do Sul dropped to the ninth position with 14 games lost. Cerrado will meet at home Corinthians (#13) in the next round. Caxias do Sul will have a break next round.
