Regular Season Round 27: La Union - Union SF 97-93

There was a small surprise in Formosa where nineteenth ranked La Union (8-17) beat 17th ranked Union SF (8-18) 97-93 on Thursday. La Union made 33-of-43 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for forward Patricio Tabarez (195-1991) who led his team to a victory scoring 29 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Naturalized Spanish guard Jonathan Maldonado (188-1990) helped adding 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was point guard Andres Jaime (184-2000) with 11 points and 4 assists and the former international guard Juan Pablo Cantero (188-1982) scored 8 points and 4 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Union SF's coach Juan Francisco Ponce tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. La Union moved-up to seventeenth place. Union SF lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the eighteenth position with 18 games lost. La Union will meet higher ranked Olimpico (#11) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Union SF will play against Obera (#10) and hope to secure a win.
