There was an upset in Sao Paulo where higher ranked Rio Claro (9-12) was defeated by fifteenth ranked Corinthians (8-15) 84-78 on Thursday. Corinthians outrebounded Rio Claro 46-34 including 30 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was Argentinian point guard Diego Figueredo (180-1991, agency: BIG) who scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists. American-Peruvian guard Kyle Fuller (184-1992, college: Vanderbilt) chipped in 20 points. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Jamaal Smith (176-1985, college: N.Mexico) who recorded 16 points and 6 assists and Anderson Rodrigues (207-1997) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rio Claro's coach Fernando Penna tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Corinthians moved-up to twelfth place. Loser Rio Claro dropped to the ninth position with 12 games lost. They share it with Paulistano. Corinthians' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Sao Paulo Vivo/Franca.
