Regular Season Round 28: Minas - Flamengo 88-79

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Belo Horizonte. Second ranked Minas faced one of their biggest challengers Flamengo. Host Minas (20-3) defeated guests from Rio de Janeiro (17-3) 88-79. It ended at the same time the nine-game winning streak of Flamengo. American guard Shaquille Johnson (191-1990, college: Marshall) fired 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. The former international point guard Alexey Borges (185-1995) chipped in 13 points and 9 assists. Five Minas players scored in double figures. Minas' coach Leonardo Costa used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. International point guard Yago Matheus (173-1999) produced 14 points and 7 assists and Argentinian point guard Franco Balbi (188-1989) added 17 points respectively for lost side. Minas have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 20-3 record having just two points less than leader Sesi Franca. Defending champion Flamengo keeps the third place with three games lost. Minas are looking forward to face league's leader Vivo/Franca in Sao Paulo in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Flamengo will play at home against Cerrado and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
