Regular Season Round 11: Valdivia - Tinguiririca 103-86

There was a minor upset when 8th ranked Tinguiririca (3-5) lost on the road to tenth ranked Deportivo Valdivia (3-4) 103-86 on Saturday. Deportivo Valdivia looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Tinguiririca's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Deportivo Valdivia made 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for Panamanian-Mexican Gabriel Giron (192-1988) who led the winners and scored 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. American forward Cameron Naylor (202-1994, college: Texas St.) accounted for 19 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side. Naylor is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Deportivo Valdivia's coach Juan Manuel Cordoba used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Guard Matias Sepulveda (-1995) came up with 30 points and 8 rebounds and the former international guard Eduardo Sepulveda (186-1986) added 17 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Tinguiririca in the defeat. Four Deportivo Valdivia and five Tinguiririca players scored in double figures. Deportivo Valdivia moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Puerto Montt. Newly promoted Tinguiririca dropped to the tenth position with five games lost. Deportivo Valdivia will meet at home Universidad Catolica (#12) in the next round. Tinguiririca will play against Puerto Montt and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
