There was no surprise in Belo Horizonte where 13th ranked Cerrado (9-17) was defeated by second ranked Minas (22-4) 74-66 on Wednesday. Minas dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Cerrado's 34. The best player for the winners was Bahamas forward Tavario Miller (203-1994, college: Texas A&M) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds. The former international guard Gui Pereira (192-1991) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists. Miller is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Minas players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American point guard Kenny Dawkins (172-1987, college: Lamar) who recorded a double-double by scoring 12 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists and Argentinian point guard Stefano Pierotti (185-1998) added 19 points respectively. Minas maintains second position with 22-4 record having just one point less than leader Sesi Franca. Loser Cerrado keeps the thirteenth place with 17 games lost. They share the position with Corinthians. Minas will meet at home bottom-ranked Brasilia (#17) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Cerrado will have a break next round.
