Regular Season Round 7: Las Plebes - Quetzales 95-94

A very close game took place in between Las Plebes and Quetzales. Second ranked Las Plebes (2-3) got a very close home victory over 7th ranked Quetzales (3-4). Las Plebes managed to escape with a 1-point win 95-94 on Saturday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Quetzales. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Strangely Quetzales outrebounded Las Plebes 28-16 including 20 on the defensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for American swingman Jessica Fairweather (178-1989, college: Queens, NY) who led the winners and scored 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds (made all of her nine free throws !!!). Jackeline Sanchez accounted for 24 points for the winning side. Four Las Plebes players scored in double figures. Cuban center Clenia Noblet (190-1987) came up with a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds and American guard Estela Gutierrez (, college: Bethesda) added 14 points respectively for Quetzales in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Las Plebes keep a position of league leader, which they share with Algodoneras and Phoenix. Loser Quetzales keep the seventh place with four games lost. They share the position with Teporacas. Las Plebes will again meet at home Quetzales (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Quetzales will have a break next round.
