Regular Season Round 7: Phoenix - Mieleras 67-107

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of Phoenix (2-3) at the home court. Hosts were rolled over by Mieleras (7-0) 107-67. Mieleras dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix's 52. Mieleras forced 20 Phoenix turnovers and outrebounded them 53-25 including a 21-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists. It was a great evening for American forward Destiny Campbell (185, college: ECU) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!), 18 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Mayra Gil (-2003) helped adding 19 points and 9 assists. Mieleras' coach Jonathan Villegas felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Viridiana Ramirez (172-1986) responded with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists and Lucero Leon scored 20 points. Mieleras have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader which they share with defeated Phoenix. Phoenix at the other side still keeps top place with three games lost. They share the position with Algodoneras and Las Plebes. Mieleras will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Phoenix will play again at home against the league's leader Mieleras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
