Regular Season Round 16: Puerto Varas - Castro 72-73
Date: March 20, 2022
Leading Puerto Varas (10-5) recorded its fifth loss at the home court. Hosts were edged by ninth ranked Castro (5-5) 73-72. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Puerto Varas. Castro dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Puerto Varas' 30. The winners were led by Argentinian-American guard Romeao Ferguson (196-1997, college: Lipscomb) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 32 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and American power forward DeMarco Owens (203-1996, college: Montevallo) supported him with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Owens is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Castro's coach Carlos Romano allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Even 35 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds by Panamanian forward Pablo Rivas (198-1994, college: NCCU) did not help to save the game for Puerto Varas. The former international guard Franco Morales (179-1992) added 12 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists for lost side. Castro maintains ninth position with 5-5 record. Puerto Varas at the other side dropped to the third place with five games lost. Castro will play against Temuco (#12) at home in the next round. Puerto Varas will play against Puerto Montt (#6) and hope to get back on the winning track.
