The game had a very big importance for third-ranked Penarol as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Penarol defeated second-ranked Gimnasia in Mar del Plata 72-65. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Gimnasia. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Tevin Glass (206-1994, college: ETSU, agency: BIG) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 6 rebounds and naturalized American power forward Phillip Lockett (202-1988) who added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. Penarol's coach Leandro Ramella used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cuban forward Joaquin Mensia (198-1997, agency: Pro Sports) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and the former international center Roberto Acuna (208-1990) scored 14 points and 6 rebounds. Penarol have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Gimnasia at the other side dropped to the third place with nine games lost. Gimnasia will play next round against Argentino trying to get back on the winning streak. Penarol will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game.
