Regular Season Round 8: Praia - Sao Jose 69-80

Very significant was Sao Jose's (#1) 80-69 road victory against second-ranked Praia. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Praia. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Sao Jose forced 24 Praia turnovers and outrebounded them 40-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. The winners were led by power forward Abner Moreira (206-1989, college: Idaho St.) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 14 points and 16 rebounds and the former international point guard Arthur Pecos (183-1994) supported him with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Sao Jose players scored in double figures. Sao Jose's coach Sebastian Luis Figueredo allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists by point guard Patrick Vieira (186-1993) did not help to save the game for Praia. Joao Mamedes (201-1998) added 14 points and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Sao Jose maintains first position with 9-3 record. Praia at the other side keeps the second place with four games lost. They share the position with Basquete Santos.
