Rather expected game when Ostioneros de Guaymas (2-4) lost at home to Tijuana Zonkeys (3-4) 100-96 on Friday. It was an exceptional evening for Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) who led the winners and scored 29 points and 8 rebounds. American Tonzell Handy (196, college: Tougaloo) accounted for 18 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. American Dylan Smith (196-1997, college: Arizona) came up with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import Leon Gilmore III (201-1995, college: SF Austin) added 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Ostioneros de Guaymas in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys will meet at home Venados in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against Rayos de Hermosillo (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
