We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when sixth ranked Venados (4-4) beat on the road 5th ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (4-5) 92-83 on Wednesday. They outrebounded Tijuana Zonkeys 38-26 including a 30-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Venados looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. American center Alex Hicks (203-1996, college: Troy) fired 17 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. The other American import Jermont Horton (198-1984, college: RU Newark) chipped in 12 points and 8 rebounds. American guard Josh Webster (190-1997, college: Missouri St.) produced 23 points and 4 assists and Gabriel Mejia (-1994) added 20 points and 4 blocks respectively for lost side. Five Venados and four Tijuana Zonkeys players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Venados moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Obregon. Loser Tijuana Zonkeys dropped to the sixth position with five games lost. Venados will meet bottom-ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (#8) on the road in the next round. Tijuana Zonkeys will play against the league's second-placed Pioneros Los Mochis and hope to secure a win.
