There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Vera Cruz (4-4) smashed on the road their close opponent Blumenau (3-3) 90-65 on Thursday. Vera Cruz forced 19 Blumenau turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for forward Emanuely De Oliveira (178-1999, college: Florida) who led her team to a victory scoring 21 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). The former international guard Beatriz Oliveira (169-1995) helped adding 11 points and 9 assists. Vera Cruz's coach Sidney Coppini felt very confident using 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Vitoria Domingos (181-1996) responded with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds and the former international swingman Leila Zabani (181-1991) scored 13 points and 6 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vera Cruz maintains fifth place with 4-4 record. Loser Blumenau dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. Vera Cruz will meet at home higher ranked Ituano (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Blumenau will play against Ituano and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
