Not a big story in a game when 8th ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (2-10) lost on the road to sixth ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (6-7) 88-81 on Saturday. Tijuana Zonkeys made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Cuban center Marvin Cairo (203-1991) notched 31 points and 9 rebounds to lead the effort and American Tonzell Handy (196, college: Tougaloo) supported him with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Tijuana Zonkeys' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 28 points by American guard Hameed Ali (188-1993, college: TAMUCC) did not help to save the game for Caballeros de Culiacan. His fellow American import power forward Tony Criswell (205-1991, college: Missouri) added 18 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tijuana Zonkeys maintains sixth position with 6-7 record. Caballeros de Culiacan lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Tijuana Zonkeys will meet at home higher ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Caballeros de Culiacan will play against Rayos de Hermosillo (#4) and hope to secure a win.
