Very important is a home loss of second ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (15-9) against seventh ranked Venados (9-15) on Tuesday night. Host Pioneros Los Mochis were defeated by Venados in a tough game in Los Mochis 88-92. The winners were led by American point guard Davin White (185-1981, college: CSUN) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds and Cameroonian center Gaston Essengue (203-1983, college: UNLV) supported him with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Even a double-double of 25 points and 14 rebounds by American power forward Kwame Alexander (201-1990, college: CSUSB, agency: BIG) did not help to save the game for Pioneros Los Mochis. His fellow American import swingman Wayne Runnels (198-1989, college: Creighton) added 21 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Pioneros Los Mochis' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Venados maintains seventh position with 9-15 record. Loser Pioneros Los Mochis keep the second place with nine games lost. They share the position with Hermosillo. Venados will meet at home higher ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (#5) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pioneros Los Mochis will play against Ostioneros de Guaymas and hope to secure a win.
