The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Astros (18-9) on the court of eighth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by Caballeros de Culiacan 97-84. Caballeros de Culiacan dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Astros' 36. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Tyrone White (201-1990, college: CSUB) stepped up and scored 26 points, 5 assists and 5 steals for the winners and power forward Corbin Jackson (201-1992, college: Florida Tech) chipped in 26 points and 7 rebounds. Jackson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the losing side guard Michael Smith (193-1995, college: CBU) responded with 22 points (made all of his seven free throws) and forward Jordan Loveridge (198-1993, college: Utah) scored 20 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Astros' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Caballeros de Culiacan maintains eighth place with 6-21 record. Astros at the other side still keep top position with nine games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan are looking forward to face higher ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (#4) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Astros will play against the league's second-placed Pioneros Los Mochis having rather not much hope for a victory.
