Regular Season Round 8: Astros - Abejas 80-61

An interesting game for Astros (4-2) which hosted in Jalisco one of their biggest challengers Abejas (0-9). Third ranked Astros had an easy win 80-61. Astros forced 26 Abejas turnovers. Strangely Abejas outrebounded Astros 51-30 including a 19-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. The winners were led by guard Paulina Rodriguez (180-1997, college: WNMU) who scored that evening 17 points and 4 assists and American forward Joy Adams (180-1993, college: Iona) supported her with 7 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists and 7 steals. Four Astros players scored in double figures. Astros' coach used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 15 points and 23 rebounds by American center Rodjanae Wade (188-1998, college: UNLV) did not help to save the game for Abejas. Her fellow American import guard Jaterra Bonds (170-1992, college: Florida) added 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Astros maintains third position with 4-2 record having five points less than leader Adelitas. Loser Abejas still closes the standings with nine games lost. Astros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Abejas will play against the league's second-placed Fuerza Regia (#2) in Monterrey and hope to get finally their first victory.
