No shocking result in a game when second ranked Pioneros Los Mochis (19-11) crushed on the road 5th ranked Tijuana Zonkeys (16-14) 98-78 on Friday. Pioneros Los Mochis dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Tijuana Zonkeys' 30. They outrebounded Tijuana Zonkeys 53-40 including a 44-33 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American power forward Kwame Alexander (201-1990, college: CSUSB, agency: BIG) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds. Swiss point guard Jordan Stevens (182-1994, college: Midwestern St.) accounted for 21 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side. Pioneros Los Mochis' coach Guillermo Vecchio used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Jon Davis (190-1996, college: Charlotte) came up with 29 points and the other American import guard Josh Webster (190-1997, college: Missouri St.) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for Tijuana Zonkeys in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Pioneros Los Mochis have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain second place with 19-11 record behind leader Astros. Loser Tijuana Zonkeys dropped to the fourth position with 14 games lost. They share it with Obregon. Pioneros Los Mochis will meet Ostioneros de Guaymas (#6) on the road in the next round. Tijuana Zonkeys will play against Rayos de Hermosillo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
