Regular Season Round 15: Guaymas - Culiacan 87-101

There was a small surprise when eighth ranked Caballeros de Culiacan (7-23) defeated on the road 6th ranked Ostioneros de Guaymas (15-15) 101-87 on Saturday. Caballeros de Culiacan shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 56.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. It was an exceptional evening for guard Rayes Gallegos (188-1990, college: Nebraska) who led the winners and scored 28 points. Power forward Corbin Jackson (201-1992, college: Florida Tech) accounted for 17 points and 12 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winning side. Worth to mention Jackson played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. Point guard Wes Washpun (185-1993, college: UNI) came up with 18 points and 4 assists and Dylan Smith (196-1997, college: Arizona) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Ostioneros de Guaymas in the defeat. Four Caballeros de Culiacan and five Ostioneros de Guaymas players scored in double figures. Ostioneros de Guaymas' coach tested eleven players and allowed the starting five to rest. Caballeros de Culiacan maintains eighth place with 7-23 record. Loser Ostioneros de Guaymas keep the sixth position with 15 games lost. Caballeros de Culiacan will meet higher ranked Halcones de Ciudad Obregon (#5) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ostioneros de Guaymas will play against the league's second-placed Pioneros Los Mochis where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
