Regular Season Round 17: Vera Cruz - Santo Andre 68-74

The biggest surprise of round 17 was guest Santo Andre's (#3) road victory over Vera Cruz (#4) 74-68 on Thursday evening. Santo Andre made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They also forced 20 Vera Cruz turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international point guard Lays Silva (167-1998, agency: Interperformances) who had a triple-double by scoring 13 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists. Forward Vanessa Goncalves (185-1994) chipped in 23 points and 7 rebounds. The former international Izabella Sangalli (182-1995) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds and power forward Licinara Rodrigues (184-1999) added 14 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Vera Cruz's coach Sidney Coppini rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Santo Andre maintains third place with 12-5 record having four points less than leader Sesi/Arara. Vera Cruz at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Santo Andre are looking forward to face league's leader Sesi/Arara. in Araraquara in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Vera Cruz will have a break next round.
