The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of Guaiqueries (4-1) in Puerto Ordaz on Friday night. Visitors were rolled over by second ranked Gigantes (2-1) 91-63. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Guaiqueries. Gigantes made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Guaiqueries 31-20 including a 23-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gigantes looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. The former international point guard Harold Cazorla (175-1991, agency: Promo Sport ID) stepped up and scored 18 points and 5 assists for the winners and American Trey Gilder (206-1985, college: NSU) chipped in 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). American guard Melvin Johnson (193-1993, college: VCU) responded with 22 points and the other American import center Jamelle Hagins (206-1990, college: Delaware) scored 14 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gigantes maintains second place with 2-1 record having just one point less than leader Centauros, which they share with Brillantes and Heroes. Guaiqueries at the other side keep the second position with one game lost. Gigantes is again looking forward to face league's second-placed Guaiqueries in Porlamar in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Guaiqueries will have a break next round.
