The game in supposed to be also worth to mention about. Third ranked San Simon (7-3) played at the court of 8th ranked UNITEP (2-9). San Simon did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 101-81. San Simon dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to UNITEP's 28. UNITEP was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American guard Akil McClain (188-1997, college: IU Kokomo) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Argentinian power forward Gianfranco Sinconi (204-1994) contributed with 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. McClain is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Argentinian Nicolas Rodriguez replied with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Esteban Covarrubias (190-2001) added 14 points and 5 assists in the effort for UNITEP. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. San Simon maintains third position with 7-3 record having just two points less than leader Pichincha. UNITEP lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with nine games lost. San Simon will play against bottom-ranked Tenis (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. UNITEP will play against Atomico and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
