Date: July 22, 2022
The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked Toros' (0-5) road loss to fourth ranked Piratas (3-4) 60-83 on Friday. Piratas shot 21 for 29 from the free-throw line, while Toros only scored four points from the stripe. They outrebounded Toros 48-23 including a 42-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Piratas looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Piratas made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was South Sudanese-Lebanese center Ater Majok (210-1987, college: UConn) who scored 6 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks. American-Hungarian forward Damian Hollis (203-1988, college: GWU) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Daniel Macuare (190-1984) who recorded 11 points, 9 assists and 4 steals and point guard Edson Tovar (180-2005) added 18 points and 5 steals respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Piratas moved-up to third place. Loser Toros still closes the standings with five games lost. Piratas will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Toros will play against Guaros (#5) and hope to get finally their first victory.
