Regular Season Round 9: Gaiteros - Brillantes 92-91

The most exciting game of round 9 in the SPB took place in Maracaibo. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of second-best Brillantes (3-3) to third ranked Gaiteros (2-3) 92-91 on Saturday evening. 28 personal fouls committed by Brillantes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Elyjah Clark (190-1998, college: MSSU) stepped up and scored 27 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and point guard Alec Wintering (183-1995, college: Portland) chipped in 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. The best for the losing side was power forward Charles Thomas (202-1986, college: Arkansas) with 29 points and guard Ashford Golden (198-1995, college: MACU) scored 20 points. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Despite that victory Gaiteros went down to fourth position due to points difference. Brillantes at the other side keep the second place with three games lost. Gaiteros are looking forward to face league's leader Trotamundos in La Asuncion in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Brillantes will have a break next round.
