There was an upset when Abejas (3-3) were edged on the road by Halcones UV Xalapa (1-5) 91-89 on Saturday. Halcones UV Xalapa made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. American players dominated the game. It was an exceptional evening for guard Avry Holmes (185-1994, college: Clemson) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. Guard Shaquille Johnson (191-1990, college: Marshall) accounted for 18 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winning side. Forward Wayne Langston (200-1993, college: Murray St.) came up with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and guard Tyrone White (201-1990, college: CSUB) added 20 points respectively for Abejas in the defeat. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Abejas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Halcones UV Xalapa will meet Plateros (#8) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Abejas will play against Astros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
