There was a small surprise in Maracaibo where fifth ranked Toros (2-9) defeated their close opponent Gaiteros (5-8) 78-71 on Sunday. Toros forced 20 Gaiteros turnovers. Jamaican-American forward Staphon Blair (206-1993, college: UCF, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) fired a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) for the winners. Point guard Edson Tovar (180-2005) chipped in 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Toros players scored in double figures. American guard Elyjah Clark (190-1998, college: MSSU) produced a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals and Maolin Colina (190-1990) added 11 points respectively for lost side. Gaiteros' coach Ibsen Castrillo let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Toros maintains fifth place with 2-9 record. Gaiteros lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the fourth position with eight games lost. Toros will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Gaiteros will play again against Toros (#5) in Maracay and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
