Regular Season Round 21: Cangrejeros - Guaiqueries 93-88

There was a minor upset in Maturin where leader Guaiqueries (10-3) were defeated by fourth ranked Cangrejeros (3-11) 93-88 on Wednesday. Cangrejeros made 27-of-34 free shots (79.4 percent) during the game, while Guaiqueries only scored eight points from the stripe. They outrebounded Guaiqueries 37-26 including 27 on the defensive glass. Argentinian forward Nicholas Wadell (201-1989) stepped up and scored 25 points for the winners and American forward Eric Frederick (203-1989, college: TxWes) chipped in 21 points and 5 rebounds. Five Cangrejeros players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Melvin Johnson (193-1993, college: VCU) with 30 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import swingman Dominique Sutton (198-1986, college: NCCU) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Cangrejeros maintains fourth place with 3-11 record. Loser Guaiqueries still keep top position with three games lost. Cangrejeros will meet league's second-placed Gladiadores in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Guaiqueries will play against Marinos and hope to secure a win.
