No shocking result in a game when third ranked Gigantes (8-3) beat 5th ranked Marinos (2-9) in Puerto La Cruz 85-77 on Thursday. Gigantes made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Swingman Luis Duarte (190-1994) notched 24 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and American center Jarred Shaw (208-1990, college: Utah St.) supported him with 9 points and 9 rebounds. Even a double-double of 23 points and 11 rebounds by American forward Steve Taylor Jr. (206-1993, college: Toledo) did not help to save the game for Marinos. Forward Franger Pirela (187-2002) added 17 points and 6 assists for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
