Second Stage Round 1: Paysandu - Juventud 35-86

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Paysandu at the home court. Hosts were rolled over by Juventud 86-35. Juventud held Paysandu to an opponent 16.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.0 percent accuracy of the winners. Juventud forced 42 Paysandu turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Paysandu's players. Paysandu was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Karina Acosta (-1986) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 44 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and guard Cynthia Diaz (158-1994) chipped in 16 points, 12 rebounds, 14 assists and 11 steals. At the losing side center Karen Villamarin (-1985) responded with 8 points and 12 rebounds and point guard Sofia Nilson (-1997) scored 7 points and 5 rebounds. Paysandu's coach Gerardo Gonzalez already knew that her team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Juventud will play against Urunday in Montevideo in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Paysandu will play on the road against Lagomar in Montevideo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
