Very expected game in Porlamar where 5th ranked Marinos (2-9) were crushed by first ranked Guaiqueries (12-3) 82-60 on Tuesday. Guaiqueries outrebounded Marinos 44-27 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Melvin Johnson (193-1993, college: VCU) who scored 22 points. His fellow American import center Jamelle Hagins (206-1990, college: Delaware) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Dominican forward Jack Michael Martinez (201-1981) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and forward Franger Pirela (187-2002) added 9 points respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Guaiqueries maintains first place with 12-3 record. Marinos lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth position with nine games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
