There was a minor upset in Sao Paulo where their close opponent Corinthians (2-3) was edged by ninth ranked Rio Claro (2-4) 84-82 on Tuesday. Rio Claro dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Corinthians' 18. The best player for the winners was American Desmond Holloway (194-1990, college: Coastal, agency: Interperformances) who scored 22 points and 5 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). The other American import point guard Kenny Dawkins (177-1987, college: Lamar) chipped in 17 points. At the other side the best for losing team was point guard Gabriel Campos (182-2001) who recorded 18 points and 6 assists and the former international guard Caue Borges (187-1991) added 13 points, 7 assists and 4 steals respectively. Five Rio Claro and four Corinthians players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Rio Claro moved-up to eighth place. Loser Corinthians dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with Sao Jose. Rio Claro will meet Araraquara (#9) on the road in the next round. Corinthians will have a break next round.
