Regular Season Round 7: Araraquara - Rio Claro 63-79
Date: August 21, 2022
There was no surprise when 9th ranked Araraquara (1-5) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Rio Claro (3-4) 79-63 on Sunday. Rio Claro made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American point guard Kenny Dawkins (177-1987, college: Lamar) who led his team to a victory scoring 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import Desmond Holloway (194-1990, college: Coastal, agency: Interperformances) helped adding 18 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws). Four Rio Claro players scored in double figures. Rio Claro's coach Fernando Penna used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side power forward Abner Moreira (206-1989, college: Idaho St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and guard Gustavo Scaglia (193-1993, college: Arizona W. CC) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Rio Claro have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Sao Jose. Araraquara lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the ninth position with five games lost. Rio Claro will meet at home bottom-ranked LSB / B2B (#11) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Araraquara will play against Osasco and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
