The game in Maturin was also quite interesting. One of their biggest challengers Marinos (4-12) played at the court of fifth ranked Cangrejeros (4-15). Cangrejeros defeated Marinos 93-77 on Sunday. Strangely Marinos outrebounded Cangrejeros 42-28 including 28 on the defensive glass. American guard Lysander Bracey (193-1996, college: Hampton) scored 23 points and 7 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Menas Stephens (198-1992, college: SW Baptist) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Dominican forward Jack Michael Martinez (201-1981) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 19 rebounds and Nigerian-American guard George A Williams II (198-1990, college: WBU) scored 20 points and 4 assists (went 9 for 9 at the free throw line !!!). Five Cangrejeros and four Marinos players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Cangrejeros maintains fifth position with 4-15 record. Loser Marinos keep the fourth place with 12 games lost. Cangrejeros will meet higher ranked Guaiqueries (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Marinos will play against the league's leader Gladiadores in Caracas and hope to secure a win.
