Regular Season Round 9: Mineros - Abejas 90-87

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Zacatecas where 4th placed Abejas (8-8) were edged by fifth ranked Mineros (8-7) 90-87 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Panamanian-Chilean guard Eugenio Luzcando (187-1995, college: Idaho St.) who scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized American Durrell Summers (196-1989, college: Michigan St.) chipped in 23 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Michael Smith (193-1995, college: CBU) who recorded 17 points and the other American import guard Tyrone White (201-1990, college: CSUB) added 15 points and 4 assists respectively. Four Mineros and five Abejas players scored in double figures. Abejas' coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Mineros moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Libertadores and Plateros. Loser Abejas dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. Mineros will meet league's second-placed Astros in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Abejas will play against Plateros (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
