Regular Season Round 36: Marinos - Guaiqueries 61-93
Date: September 14, 2022
Rather expected game when 4th ranked Marinos (5-20) were smashed by second ranked Guaiqueries (16-6) in Puerto La Cruz 93-61 on Wednesday. Guaiqueries dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Marinos' 24. They outrebounded Marinos 49-30 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by international forward Jose Ascanio (204-1996, agency: Pro Sports) who scored that evening 16 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and American forward Anthony Young (200-1989, college: KWC) supported him with 13 points and 5 rebounds. Four Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. Guaiqueries' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 28 points by Nigerian-American guard George A Williams II (198-1990, college: WBU) did not help to save the game for Marinos. Guard Amos Acosta (180-1996) added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Guaiqueries have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 16-6 record having just three point less than leader Centauros. Marinos lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the fourth place with 20 games lost. Guaiqueries will meet at home Gigantes (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Marinos will have a break next round.
