Third-ranked Spartans (8-11) used its home court advantage to challenge first ranked Cocodrilos (15-5) in Caracas on Wednesday. The visitors managed to secure only three-point victory 81-78. However their fans expected easier game. Cocodrilos dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Spartans' 24. The winners were led by Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains, agency: BIG) who scored that evening 18 points and 9 rebounds and Dominican Juan Guerrero (203-1993) supported him with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Cocodrilos' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Even 24 points and 8 rebounds by American Victor Rudd (206-1991, college: S.Florida) did not help to save the game for Spartans. International center Windi Graterol (204-1986, agency: Pro Sports) added 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Cocodrilos maintains first position with 15-5 record. Spartans lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with 11 games lost. Cocodrilos will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Spartans' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Caracas Gladiadores.
