Not a big story in a game when 6th ranked Mineros (8-9) lost to first ranked Astros (13-4) in Guadalajara 94-99 on Friday. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Astros looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. Dominican Rigoberto Mendoza (190-1992) notched 17 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and the former international guard Jorge Gutierrez (191-1988, college: California) supported him with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Astros' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Even 23 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists by American swingman Jordan Williams (198-1992, college: N.Texas) did not help to save the game for Mineros. His fellow American import power forward Franklin Hassell (203-1988, college: ODU, agency: SDJ Sports) added 18 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) for lost side. Five Astros and four Mineros players scored in double figures. Astros have an impressive 11-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 13-4 record. Loser Mineros keep the sixth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Plateros. Astros will meet bottom-ranked Correcaminos (#10) in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
