Second Stage Round 6: Montevideo - Lagomar 20-98
Date: September 18, 2022
Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Montevideo: Lagomar (#2) and Montevideo (#5). Montevideo was smashed at home by 78 points 20-98 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Lagomar held Montevideo to an opponent 17.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 44.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Lagomar forced 57 Montevideo turnovers and outrebounded them 48-30 including a 18-1 advantage in offensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 3 passes made by Montevideo's players. It was a good game for Argentinian guard Melina Marcial (168-1998) who led her team to a victory with 25 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Point guard Victoria Pereyra (172-1986) contributed with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 10 steals for the winners. Forward Florencia Mier (167-1992) replied with 1 points and 10 rebounds and forward Victoria Cardone (160-1994) added 8 points in the effort for Montevideo. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Lagomar have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 5-1 record behind leader Yale, which they share with D.Sporting. Montevideo at the other side keeps the fifth place with five games lost. They share the position with 3 other teams. Lagomar will play against Paysandu (#4) on the road in the next round. Montevideo's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Montevideo to the arena Yale.
